CONCORD, ONTARIO - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas) and Member of Parliament (Thornhill), today announced funding for Captus Press Inc.
"Our Government is proud to have renewed for five years its support program for the Canadian book publishing industry," said Minister Moore. "This will ensure that Canadians continue to have access to Canadian-authored books on a wide range of topics."
"Captus Press is an important publisher of post-secondary textbooks and other educational resources," said Minister Kent. "This funding will help them to produce and promote more quality books for universities, colleges, and readers in general."
"Captus Press is a publisher of primarily post-secondary textbooks that feature Canadian content and provide a Canadian context for university and college courses in the subjects of business, law, disability studies, and Aboriginal economic development; as well as for foreign centres of Canadian studies and resources," said Randy Hoffman, President of Captus Press. "The financial support of the Government of Canada over the years has enabled us to publish over 150 effective and attractive textbooks and compete successfully with transnational publishers in our market segments."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $96,949 under the Aid to Publishers component of the Book Publishing Industry Development Program (BPIDP) (
